A handsome English Regency mahogany tea caddy, dating to the early 19th century. Beautifully veneered in richly figured flame mahogany, the sarcophagus-form case rests on brass bun feet.
The hinged lid opens to reveal two lidded interior compartments, originally intended for storing prized loose-leaf teas separately. Originally kept under lock and key due to the high value of tea, caddies such as this were both practical household necessities and elegant decorative objects.
With its refined proportions, beautiful veneers, and timeless design, this Regency tea caddy makes a sophisticated addition to a desk, bookshelf, library, or tabletop vignette.
Dimensions: 7.75" x 4.5" x 5.5"H
Condition: Good antique condition with age-appropriate wear consistent with age and use. Light surface wear, minor veneer imperfections, and expected signs of age. The interior retains both lidded compartments. Key not included.
