A striking pair of French Napoleon III giltwood side chairs, circa mid-to-late 19th century, executed in the Louis XVI taste. Each features an oval upholstered back framed by fluted uprights, carved rosettes, turned spindle details and an ornate floral crest, raised on slender fluted legs joined by decorative stretchers.
Upholstered in soft aqua blue velvet, providing a beautiful contrast to the giltwood frames. Particularly lovely as occasional chairs flanking a console or chest, or used as decorative seating in a bedroom or sitting room.
The gilt finish shows expected age-related wear, rubbing and scattered losses, particularly to the legs and high points, lending the pair an appealing timeworn character. The soft blue velvet upholstery has variations in tone from age and light exposure, including circular areas to the seats, as pictured. Sold as a pair.
