A charming set of four 18th-century hand-colored bird engravings by the renowned English naturalist and ornithologist George Edwards (1694–1773), often regarded as the father of British ornithology.
Published in the mid-18th century from Edwards' celebrated A Natural History of Uncommon Birds, each engraving depicts beautifully observed exotic birds in naturalistic landscapes. 
The prints are presented in a coordinated set of later, early 20th Century black-painted wood and gesso frames with gilt trim.   A classic English look that works beautifully in traditional, collected, or eclectic interiors. Displayed together, they make an elegant gallery wall grouping.  
 
Condition: Good antique condition. The engravings exhibit expected age toning and scattered foxing. Housed in antique black-painted and gilt gesso frames with age-related chips, losses, and wear to the gesso and finish. The frame wear is cosmetic and consistent with age, adding to their authentic antique character. Prints have not been inspected outside the frame.
